About the Book: Your years in seminary are meant to prepare you for ministry, but it can also be a very challenging time. Many students struggle with the rigorous study and the challenges to their personal and spiritual lives.

Surviving and Thriving in Seminary is designed to prepare current and future seminary students for what's ahead. In it, two seminary professors (and former seminary students) tell you what they tell their students, and what they wish they'd known. This book aims to teach you skills that will help you thrive in the areas of your personal life, time management, and study practices. While seminary is always a rigorous experience, you can do more than survive it. You can thrive.

My friend Israel Wayne returns to the show to make the case for the importance of Christian education and homeschooling. Full disclosure: I am pro homeschooling.

About the Book:  Since the beginning of the 20th century, the vast majority of Christians have embraced the idea that it is a proper role and function of the civil government to control and guide the education of children. Most Christians believe God doesn't care, one way or the other, how our children are schooled or what methods are employed. This book will use Scripture to prove otherwise. What you read in this book will radically challenge your assumptions and preconceived ideas.

  • Discover the true purpose of an education and how this affects and influences students
  • Explore a truly Biblical philosophy of education and how it compares to traditional schooling
  • Learn to apply a Biblical worldview strategically and systematically to core subjects of education

There is almost no topic that is as relevant to the future of Christianity or as controversial as the education of children. Students in school classrooms spend thousands of hours being instructed by people who are not their parents. There is almost no way to calculate what a powerful force this is for influence.

From rules to help students reason to information that will help you be a more effective teacher, this book shows the vital importance of "why" in asking students to learn the "what" and "how" of any subject. The future of your child's education and, therefore, his or her life is ultimately in your hands as a parent. Open your mind and your heart to God's Word and His truth. Much is at stake. Ask Him to give you discernment to help you understand how He sees the issue of education.

About the Author:  Israel Wayne is an author and conference speaker who has a passion for defending the Christian faith and promoting a Biblical worldview. The author of Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview, Full-Time Parenting: A Guide to Family-Based Discipleship, Questions God Asks and Questions Jesus Asks.

Israel, and his wife Brook, are homeschooling their nine children in SW Michigan. Since 1995, Israel has traveled the nation speaking on family, homeschooling, revival, discipleship, and cultural issues.

He is a frequent guest on national radio and television programs. Israel has been featured in national and international publications including TIME Magazine, The Arizona Republic, WORLD Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Israel has been featured as the keynote speaker at numerous conferences, some with over 5,000 in attendance.

Carl Gallups joins me to talk about biblical prophecy and how it relates to unfolding world events, the unprecedented expansion of technology, and thousands of Jews and Muslims coming to Christ.

About the Book:  The return of Israel. Increased turmoil in the Middle East. The rise of ISIS. China and Russia's presence in the Fertile Crescent. The exponentially increasing technological explosion. The "Trojan horse" refugee crisis. America's collapsing borders. The rise of the Sodom and Gomorrah spirit. The targeting of Christians around the world and particularly in the Middle East and The United States. These are just a few prophetic fulfillments occurring in our day pointing to significant biblical times to come. The Bible is 100% accurate in regards to the ancient prophecies and ours is the first generation to see these startling events converging - and at lightning speed.

Meticulously documented with reliable sources and sound contextual biblical study, WHEN THE LION ROARS equips you to understand the gravity of the days in which we are living.
In When the Lion Roars, discover what the Bible really says about...
  • The unprecedented demonic outpouring of the Last Days,
  • The spirit of the days of Noah,
  • The connection of wanton technology growth with biblical prophecy fulfillment,
  • The spirit of Sodom and Gomorrah,
  • Apostasy in the Last Days' Church,
  • Why Turkey is central to last days' prophecy,
  • Why Israel is the centerpiece of end time prophecy,
  • The historical truth about Islam and ISIS,
  • The Shemitah effect,
  • The mystery of 666 - are we on the verge of the technological fulfillment?
  • How should Christians and the Church respond to these prophetic times,
  • And much more.
We are living in intense but exciting times. We are living in prophetically unprecedented times. Be on guard; prepare your spirit and your mind. Make certain you have a biblically balanced understanding of our generation. Be ready with wisdom and perspective. The closing chapters represent wise and biblical counsel from a long-time pastor's heart. They are filled with discernment and instruction for prophecy-days living - and laden with hope and encouragement.
We have been raised up "For such a time as this!" The Lion of God's prophetic Word is roaring. Do you hear its warning? Do you hear its call?

Michael & Aimée Spurlock share the exciting true story behind the new film ALL SAINTS and talk about what it was like seeing their story playing on the big screen.

About the Film:  ALL SAINTS is based on the inspiring true story of salesman-turned-pastor Michael Spurlock (John Corbett), the tiny church he was ordered to shut down, and a group of refugees from Southeast Asia. Together, they risked everything to plant seeds for a future that might just save them all.

After trading in his corporate sales career to become a pastor, Michael’s first assignment is All Saints, a quaint country church with a dozen members. It comes with a catch: he has to close the church doors for good and sell the prime piece of land on which it sits. While developers eagerly eye the property and the congregation mourns the inevitable, Michael and his family look forward to moving on to an established church where they can put down roots.

But when the church hesitantly begins welcoming Karen (kuh-REN) refugees from Burma—former farmers striving for a fresh start in America—Michael feels called to an improbable new mission. Toiling alongside the Karen people, the congregation attempts to turn their fertile land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills and feed its newest people.

Jeopardizing his family’s future by ignoring his superiors, Michael must choose between completing what he was assigned to do—close the church and sell the property—or listening to a still, small voice challenging the people of All Saints to risk it all and provide much-needed hope to their new community.

About the Spurlocks: The Reverend Michael Spurlock is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Nashotah House Theological Seminary. He served All Saints Episcopal Church in Smyrna, Tennessee, for three years beginning in 2007. He is currently on the clergy staff at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City. Michael, his wife, Aimee, and their two children live in New York City.

Aimée Marcoux-Spurlock is an award-winning reporter and a classically trained singer and actress. Aimee is married to Michael Spurlock, an Episcopalian priest. Their family is the subject of
a new film from AFFIRM Films and Provident Films called ALL SAINTS, based on the inspirational true story of their time at All Saints church, in Smyrna Tennessee. Aimee and Michael live in New York City with their two children.

About the Book:  The supernatural visitation described in this book happened in 1992. However, I felt that I could not speak of it openly until the "time was right," and that time is now! About the Book: The Dark Side of the Supernatural is your Behind-the-Scenes Guide to the Unseen World of the Paranormal

Some mock the supernatural. Some preach against it. Some act like it doesn’t even exist.

Get ready to:

  • Learn how the supernatural impacts your everyday life… from someone with practical experience with the unseen realm
  • Hear powerful stories of people who were terrorized by paranormal activity… and be inspired by their journeys to freedom

Matthew W. Bates (Ph.D., University of Notre Dame) is Associate Professor of Theology at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. He is pressing the church towards a new precision: we are saved solely by allegiance to Jesus the king. Instead of faith alone, Christians must speak about salvation by allegiance alone.

About the Book:  We are saved by faith when we trust that Jesus died for our sins. This is the gospel, or so we are taught. But what is faith? And does this accurately summarize the gospel? Because faith is frequently misunderstood and the climax of the gospel misidentified, the gospel's full power remains untapped. While offering a fresh proposal for what faith means within a biblical theology of salvation, Matthew Bates presses the church toward a new precision: we are saved solely by allegiance to Jesus the king. Instead of faith alone, Christians must speak about salvation by allegiance alone. The book includes discussion questions for students, pastors, and church groups and a foreword by Scot McKnight.

About the Author:  Matthew W. Bates (PhD, University of Notre Dame) is assistant professor of theology at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. He is the author of The Hermeneutics of the Apostolic Proclamation and The Birth of the Trinity.

Andrew T. Walker serves as the Director of Policy Studies for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. In this conversation we examine some of the core topics covered in his book God and the Transgender Debate, including:

  • Culturally, how did we get here?
  • What would Jesus say to the person experiencing gender dysphoria or identifying themselves as transgender?
  • If Christians take the golden rule to heart, what does it look like to love your transgender neighbor?
  • How can parents effectively engage their children in discussion on these topics?

About the book:  What is transgender and gender fluidity? What does God's Word actually say about these issues? How can the gospel be good news for someone experiencing gender dysphoria? How should churches respond?

This warm, faithful and careful book helps Christians understand what the Bible says about gender identity. It will help us to engage lovingly, thoughtfully and faithfully with one of the most explosive cultural discussions of our day.

If you want to learn more and love better, and are open to considering what God has to say about sex and gender, this hope-filled book is for you.

Includes a section looking at practical questions including:

- Can someone be transgender and Christian?
- Should I mind if people who are biologically the other sex are in my restroom?
- What should church leaders do if a congregation member asks for their child to be identified as the opposite gender?
- Is it true that Christian teaching is harmful and can lead to depression and higher suicide rates?
- What about people who are born intersex?

Keith Ferrin is a coach, storyteller, and author. In this interview we talk about his new book (Bible Praying for Parents), traditional vs. self-publishing. building your platform, book marketing, serving your audience before asking for favors, effective communication, and his brand new online course.

About the Book:  As parents, we want to pray for our kids. We know we should pray for them. And yet, our prayers often feel repetitive. Or we wonder if they're making a difference. So then, how do we know what to pray? How do we know we are praying in line with God's will? How do we know we are covering every aspect of their lives (rather than only what’s urgent at the moment)?

The answer is Bible Praying.

We know the Bible is in line with God’s will. We know it is the God-breathed Word. We know it covers every aspect of life.

This book is a parent’s guide to Bible Praying.

Section One: 365 Daily Prayers. The prayers are the actual words of Scripture, with the reference, category, and focus. Insert your child’s name as you pray the Bible for and over your child.

Section Two: Bible Praying by Category. All the prayers from each category laid out together. Pray multiple Bible Prayers for Anxiety, Friendships, Temptations, Relationships, etc.

Section Three: Bible Blessings. Blessings straight from God’s Word. Say them to your kids. Pray them over your kids. Remind them of who they are and whose they are.

"Do you ever feel like you pray the same things, over and over for your kids? If we are honest, our prayers can become repetitive, robotic, and even shallow. Bible Praying for Parents immediately accelerated and deepened my prayers for my family. Every day, this book will give you a power-packed prayer from the Bible. This book is perfect for every parent (like me) who feels inadequate and insecure in prayer." Dr. Rob Rienow - Visionary Family Ministries

About the Author:  Keith Ferrin is a husband and father of three. He is the author of several books and speaks at conferences, churches, and schools around the U.S. and internationally.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! In this episode I speak with Tom Doyle about his book Standing in the Fire: Courageous Christians Living in Frightening Times.

Here are the questions Tom and I discuss in the interview:

  • First off Tom, let’s help the listeners get to know you a bit better. Tell us the elevator pitch version of the Tom Doyle origin story. (00:39 - 02:49)
  • Next tell us how you and your wife JoAnn first got started working in the MIddle East. (02:50 - 04:44)
  • One needs to simply turn on the television or access social media to find news of terrorism and the persecution of Christians taking place all across the globe. From your vantage point, is it as bad as the news suggests or is it far worse? (04:45 - 06:55)
  • Tom, introduce us to some of the Christian’s we’re going to encounter in the pages of Standing in the Fire and share a few of their stories with us. (06:56 - 11:17)
  • How do Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego serve as an example for what it looks like for followers of Christ to stand courageously for their faith rather than merely surviving in a climate of fear? (11:18 - 13:14)
  • Is Christian persecution coming to the U.S.? (13:15 - 15:40)
  • How should American Christians respond to the global persecution of Christians? (15:41 - 18:37)
  • What do you think has been the greatest trial for you personally in spending so much time in the Middle East. (18:38 - 20:23)
  • Tom, as you think of readers getting to the final page of Standing in the Fire, what do you most hope they take away from interacting with your book? (20:24 - 25:59)
  • Tom, I know many of my listeners are going to want to find out more, so tell us where we can connect with you online and get our own copy of Standing in the Fire? (26:00 - 27:49)

About the Book:  Followers of Christ need to relearn what it means to stand courageously for their faith rather than merely survive in a climate of fear. Instead of motivating believers to action, today’s headlines appear to be paralyzing them. Standing in the Fire demonstrates the church triumphant through the lives of people who stood strong and didn’t run away in the face of overwhelming danger. These Middle Eastern heroes of faith fear God more than terrorist groups like ISIS. Supported by Tom Doyle’s commentary on events, the stories included show how these Christians are not living as victims, but victors in Christ.

Here are questions Timothy and I discuss in this interview:

  1. First off Timothy, I’d love for you to share a bit of your origin story. Tell us about some of the early experiences that helped you to develop a passion for artifacts and antiquities. (00:39 - 02:18)
  2. How did you get started looking for encrypted codes in the ancient Hebrew Bible? (02:19 - 15:37)
  3. Tell us about the initial discovery where you found your own name encoded in the Hebrew text. (15:38 - 20:17)
  4. What do you think these discoveries imply about the formation and origin of these Hebrew texts? (20:18 - 25:35)
  5. How does your work differ from Michael Drosnin’s book The Bible Code? (25:36 - 29:33)
  6. Timothy, as you think of readers getting to the final page of The Chamberlain Key, what do you most hope they take away from interacting with your story? (29:34 - 31:48)
  7. Timothy, I know many of my listeners are going to want to find out more, so tell us where we can connect with you online? (31:49 - 32:49)

About the Book:  Imagine you are a young, ambitious, successful appraiser of artifacts and antiquities—your services in demand by many of the most powerful individuals and branches of government in Washington, D. C.  Your future could not seem brighter—except for a troubling dream...with the same mysterious message...on the same exact date...three years in a row...
A True Story...Better Than Fiction
Timothy P. Smith, heir to a renowned family business responsible for construction or renovation of some of America’s most cherished landmarks, struggled to understand the significance of his recurring dream...until he had another dream--one that identified a specific location where it seemed he might find answers to his questions. So Timothy drove to a remote spot in British Columbia. There the adventure--which later led to a startling discovery in the oldest Hebrew text of the Bible--began.
It took the convergence of the sacred text, one man’s life, and modern computer technology to reveal messages that may explain dramatic world events, as well as influence every person alive today.
Welcome to The Chamberlain Key.

About the Author:  Timothy P. Smith is a noted appraiser and conservator of artifacts and antiquities. He has discovered and recovered many priceless historical items, none of which has amazed and excited him as much as “the chamberlain key.” Timothy and his wife reside in Virginia.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! In this episode I speak with Sam Storms about his latest book Practicing the Power: Welcoming the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in Your Life (Zondervan, 2017).

Here are the questions Sam and I discuss in this interview:

  1. Sam, would you mind starting us off by sharing about how you first got exposed to or encountered the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit? I know many of my listeners would be interested in hearing that part of your faith story. (00:38 - 07:57)
  2. Next let’s get into the story behind the book. How did the idea and need for Practicing the Power first begin to take shape? (07:58 - 10:45)
  3. Let’s pull together the ground you cover in chapters 2-4. How does having an earnest desire for spiritual gifts and practicing both prayer and fasting put somebody in the right posture to be ready to go deeper with the gifts of the Holy Spirit?  (10:46 - 15:08)
  4. One of the gifts I see most commonly pursued is healing. Give us some guidelines on the dos and don’ts of pursuing this gift. (15:09 - 21:10)
  5. Another thing I see often in Spirit-empowered church circles is people practicing the gift of prophecy, sharing what are sometimes referred to as words of knowledge. Give us some practical guidance and boundaries for the prophetic. (21:11 - 25:43)
  6. I loved the title that was used for chapter 9. Talk to us about “User-Friendly Deliverance.” (25:44 - 28:49)
  7. What does it mean to quench the Spirit and how can we avoid doing that? (28:50 - 31:03)
  8. If we had the ability to put you in front of every reader as they finish the last page of Practicing the Power, what challenge or parting word of encouragement would you want to share with each of them? (31:04 - 33:16)
  9. Sam, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your books, where should they go on the web? (33:17 - 34:47)

About the Book:  The Bible teaches us that we are to be filled with God's Spirit and that God's presence and grace is manifested among his people as they serve, love, and minister to one another. Yet some of the gifts that God offers to his people aren't commonly seen in many churches today. Gifts of prophecy, healing, tongues, and other supernatural gifts of God seem to be absent, and many Christians are unsure how to cultivate an atmosphere where God's Spirit can work while remaining committed to the foundational truth of God's Word.

How can Christians pursue and implement the miraculous gifts of the Spirit without falling into fanatical excess and splitting the church in the process? In Practicing the Power, pastor and author Sam Storms offers practical steps to understanding and exercising spiritual gifts in a way that remains grounded in the word and centered in the gospel.

With examples drawn from his forty years of ministry as a pastor and teachers, Storms offers a guidebook that can help pastors, elders, and church members understand what changes are needed to see God move in supernatural power and to guard against excess and abuse of the spiritual gifts. If you long to see God's Spirit move in your church and life, and aren't sure why that isn't happening or where to begin, this book is for you.

About the Author:  Sam Storms (PhD, University of Texas) is founder of Enjoying God Ministries, which provides biblical and theological resources to the body of Christ. He is also the senior pastor of Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City and a former professor. Storms travels both in the United States and abroad, speaking at churches and conferences. He is the author of over two-dozen books and a contributor to the Zondervan Counterpoints volume Are the Miraculous Gifts for Today?

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! In this episode I speak with Sharon Gilbert about her latest book Blood Lies, book #1 in The Redwing Saga.

Here's are the questions Sharon and I discuss in this interview:

  • First off Sharon, let’s help the listeners get to know you a bit better. Give us a few of the highlights in the Sharon K. Gilbert origin story. (00:38 - 02:15)
  • Now you’ve worked on both fiction and nonfiction books. What are some of the freedoms or advantages you find in writing fiction. (02:16 - 03:34)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. How did the ideas behind Blood Lies and The Redwing Saga first begin to take shape for you? (03:35 - 05:32)
  • Set the stage for the listeners, when and where does Blood Lies take place. (5:33 - 07:29)
  • You weave a blend of both real historical and fictitious people into Blood Lies. Introduce us a few of the key characters we’re going to meet in the book. (07:30 - 11:32)
  • The Ripper murders are a key part of the Blood Lies story. What are some of the surprising things you learned while researching Jack the Ripper? (11:33 - 13:35)
  • You’ve already mentioned that there’s a spiritual warfare theme in the book. Give the listeners a sense of some of the ways the supernatural breaks into the natural in your story. (13:36 - 15:37)
  • Sharon, as you think of readers getting to the final page of Blood Lies, how do you hope they’ve been impacted by your story? (15:38 - 16:36)
  • What’s next in the The Redwing Saga series? (16:37 - 17:47)
  • Sharon, I know the listeners are going to want to find out more, so tell us where we can connect with you online and get our own copy of Blood Lies? (17:48 - 21:19)

About the Book:  The Ripper murders did not begin in 1888, but in March of 1879, when a beautiful woman is found slain and dismembered on Commercial Street in Spitalfields, London. When detectives arrive, they find not only the broken body of the victim, but a child who remembers nothing of who she is or how she came to be at the scene. Because the little girl has no known home, a gentle-hearted detective inspector named Charles St. Clair takes her to his home, and from that point on, his life will never be the same. Over the course of the next ten years, he’ll learn not only all about the girl but also about himself. And St. Clair will learn the truth about a supernatural battle that has been raging across England for four hundred years. The Redwing Saga presents an alternative telling of history, pulling back the veil of secrecy put into place by those who would deceive and destroy. Geopolitics, criminal investigation, and science merge with secret societies, angelic warfare, and human free will. Book One of the series, Blood Lies, introduces the characters—both human and non-human—as well as their backstories, and it starts us on a journey that will eventually lead from Whitechapel to World War.

About the Author:  Science, writing, opera, and geopolitics are just a few of the many ‘hats’ worn by Sharon K. Gilbert. She has been married to SkyWatchTV host and fellow writer Derek P. Gilbert for nearly twenty years, and during that time, helped to raise a brilliant and beautiful stepdaughter, Nicole Gilbert. The Gilberts have shared their talents and insights for over a decade with the pioneering Christian podcasts, PID Radio, Gilbert House Fellowship, and View from the Bunker. In addition to co-hosting SkyWatchTV’s flagship interview program and SciFriday each week, Sharon also hosts SkyWatch Women and SkyWatch Women One-on-One. She and Derek speak several times each year at conferences, where they love to discuss news and prophecy with viewers, listeners, and readers. Sharon’s been following and studying Bible prophecy for over fifty years, and she often says that she’s only scratched the surface. When not immersed in study, a writing project, or scouring the Internet for the latest science news, you can usually find her relaxing in the garden with their faithful hound, Sam T. Dachshund.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Michael Horton about his brand new book Rediscovering the Holy Spirit: God’s Perfecting Presence in Creation, Redemption, and Everyday Life (Zondervan, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • I know you’re going to be new to a number of my listeners, so let’s give them a chance to get to know you a bit better. If one of us bumped into you in line at a coffee shop and asked you to tell us a bit about yourself and what you do, how would you respond? (00:38 - 01:29)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. Tell us about the lecture series that Rediscovering the Holy Spirit grew out of. (01:30 - 02:50)
  • The title of the book seems to suggest that we’ve lost touch with or have somehow been neglecting the Holy Spirit. What happened, how did we move towards depersonalizing or marginalizing the Spirit? (02:51 - 07:39)
  • Going back to where it all begins in the book of Genesis, what can we learn about the Spirit from the creation account? (07:40 - 10:38)
  • What do we learn about the Spirit during the incarnation, the time when Jesus walked the earth? (10:39 - 15:15)
  • What about the work of the Holy Spirit from Pentecost forward? (15:16 - 19:16)
  • Talk to us about the work of the Spirit in the midst of the sacraments such as baptism and communion. (19:17 - 20:55)
  • What are some practical steps the listeners can take to grow in their awareness of and dependence on the Holy Spirit? (20:56 - 23:20)
  • When you think of readers getting to the the last page of Rediscovering the Holy Spirit, what challenge or parting word of encouragement would you want to share with each of them? (23:21 - 24:05)
  • Michael, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your books, where should they go on the web? (24:06 - 25:04)

About the Book:  For the Spirit, being somewhat forgotten is an occupational hazard. The Holy Spirit is so actively involved in our lives that we can take his presence for granted. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt. Just as we take breathing for granted, we can take the Holy Spirit for granted simply because we constantly depend on him. Like the cane that soon feels like an extension of the blind man’s own body, we too easily begin to think of the Holy Spirit as an extension of ourselves.

Yet the Spirit is at the center of the action in the divine drama from Genesis 1:2 all the way to Revelation 22:17. The Spirit’s work is as essential as the Father’s and the Son’s, yet the Spirit’s work is always directed to the person and work of Christ. In fact, the efficacy of the Holy Spirit’s mission is measured by the extent to which we are focused on Christ. The Holy Spirit is the person of the Trinity who brings the work of the Father, in the Son, to completion. In everything that the Triune God performs, this perfecting work is characteristic of the Spirit.

In Rediscovering the Holy Spirit, author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton introduces readers to the neglected person of the Holy Spirit, showing that the work of God’s Spirit is far more ordinary and common than we realize. Horton argues that we need to take a step back every now and again to focus on the Spirit himself—his person and work—in order to recognize him as someone other than Jesus or ourselves, much less something in creation. Through this contemplation we can gain a fresh dependence on the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives.

About the Author:  Michael Horton (PhD, DD) is Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics at Westminster Seminary California. Author of many books, including The Christian Faith: A Systematic Theology for Pilgrims on the Way, he also hosts the White Horse Inn radio program. He lives with his wife, Lisa, and four children in Escondido, California.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Jake McCandless about his new book Spiritual Prepper: Tapping into Overlooked Prophecies to Prepare You for Doomsday (WND Books, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • First off Jake, since this is your first time on the show, let’s give the listeners a chance to get to know you you better. Tell us a bit of the Jake McCandless origin story. (00:41 - 04:10)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. You say that, this prophecy book is unlike most, as the prophecies you address focus on our spirituality, morality, and faith, not the environment, economy, or geopolitics. Talk to us about the catalyst or aha moment that got you started down the path of bringing this book to life. (04:11 - 09:17)
  • What sorts of misperceptions do authors have as they’re starting out? (09:18 - 14:22)
  • Talk to us about Prepping for Persecution. (14:23 -  18:25)
  • Talk to us about Prepping in a Weakened Church. (18:26 - 23:41)
  • Talk to us about Prepping against Shiny Things. (23:42 - 30:20)
  • I was glad that you included a Spiritual Prepper’s Checklist at the end of each chapter. How would you like to see both individuals and study groups put that to use? (30:21 - 32:35)
  • If I had the ability to beam you in front of every reader as they finish the last page of Spiritual Prepper, what challenge or parting word of encouragement would you want to share with each of them? (32:36 - 34:38)
  • As you look back on the journey of writing Spiritual Prepper, what was the most significant truth or lesson you learned along the way? (34:39 - 36:51)
  • Are there any tools, tips, or routines that you’d share with new and aspiring authors to help them to be successful? (36:52 - 44:04)
  • Jake, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about Spiritual Prepper, where should they go on the web? (44:05 - 45:00)

About the Book: As the world appears to be spiraling out of control, Spiritual Prepper helps you focus your spirituality, morality, and faith in these troubled times.

Religious liberty is under attack. Immorality is the standard. Christians are being persecuted. The church is struggling because it’s been getting solutions from the wrong places. We shouldn’t be surprised about these current conditions, but we are.

Spiritual Prepper provides a fresh perspective on end-time prophecy by drawing out the spiritual effects of natural disasters, the Antichrist, the mark of the beast, topics like the spiritual implication of identifying with Christianity (2 Peter 3:3), and gravitating to messages you want to hear (2 Tim. 4:3-4).

The biblical prophecies that explain these events and could help us cope have been overshadowed. Spiritual Prepper brings to light and makes relevant the forgotten prophecies that explain that men will take advantage of women (2 Tim. 3:6), Christians will quench the power of the Holy Spirit (2 Tim 3:1-5), believers will betray fellow believers (Matt. 24:3-13), and more.

Spiritual Prepper is a guide to families and churches who need encouragement in the face of loved ones who have turned away from God and their faith. As the fallen word races towards the day of judgment, the time to be prepared spiritually is now. There will come a time when a spiritual disaster hits and we have to remain faithful. The goal is that you’d persevere and remain faithful. That on the day you see the Lord, you’d hear, “well done my good and faithful servant.”

About the Author:  Jake McCandless is an author and former pastor who serves as the executive director and lead speaker for Prophecy Simplified. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Central Baptist College (2004) and an Advanced Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2009). Much of his theological training has been in the field of eschatology. He has received numerous academic awards and recognitions in ministry, such as the Zondervan National Greek Award and the prestigious Yousef Costa Excellence in Preaching Award from Central Baptist College. He has spent the past eleven years as lead pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, AR, and just recently made the difficult decision to step away from the pastorate to lead Prophecy Simplified. He spent seven years as a youth evangelist with Sold Out Ministries and has been involved on staff in churches since 1998. Jake is married to Amanda. Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • Peter, you and I have had a chance to get to know each other through my work with Bethany House, but I know that you’re going to be new to many of my listeners, so take a few minutes to fill them in on the Peter Greer origin story. (00:34 - 02:47)
  • You serve as President and CEO for Hope International, tell us about the mission of your organization and how your work literally changes lives all over the world. (02:48 - 7:08)
  • Every book project has its own unique journey with a backstory. How did the ideas behind Created to Flourish get their start? (7:09 - 9:26)
  • You had the privilege of revisiting and updating the message of Created to Flourish. What did you learn in that process and what is different about you this time around? (9:27 - 12:11)
  • What do people really need to know when they’re thinking about the state of poverty in the world. (12:12 - 14:57)
  • How has the church tended to respond to poverty and what might we consider doing differently? I like the phrase you use about giving a hand up, not a hand out. (14:58 - 19:23)
  • Talk to us about how we can get involved, both as individuals and also as members of churches and other large organizations. (19:24 - 21:10)
  • If readers only take away one thing from reading this book, what do you hope that is? (21:11 - 21:55)
  • Tell us about a few of your other books. (21:56 - 25:07)
  • Peter, if the listeners want to find out more about Hope International and get a free copy of Created to Flourish, where should they go on the web? (25:08 - 25:37)
