Seminary can be a difficult road. Danny Zacharias and I share some of our hard-earned wisdom on how to not only survive, but thrive in seminary, while maintaining your health, nurturing your family, and being involved in ministry.

About the Book: Your years in seminary are meant to prepare you for ministry, but it can also be a very challenging time. Many students struggle with the rigorous study and the challenges to their personal and spiritual lives.

Surviving and Thriving in Seminary is designed to prepare current and future seminary students for what's ahead. In it, two seminary professors (and former seminary students) tell you what they tell their students, and what they wish they'd known. This book aims to teach you skills that will help you thrive in the areas of your personal life, time management, and study practices. While seminary is always a rigorous experience, you can do more than survive it. You can thrive.

About the Authors:  H. Daniel Zacharias (PhD, University of Aberdeen / Highland Theological College) is Assistant Professor of New Testament at Acadia Divinity College. He also serves as a faculty member with the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies (NAIITS) and is an ordained Baptist minister. He has edited numerous books in the Studies in Scripture in Early Judaism and Christianity (SSEJC) series, written several articles for the Lexham Bible Dictionary, and is the author of Matthew's Presentation of the Son of David. He resides in Wolfville, Nova Scotia with his wife Maria and their four children.

Benjamin K. Forrest (Ed.D., Liberty University) is Associate Professor of Christian Education and Department Chair at Liberty University School of Divinity. His research and teaching interests have focused on spiritual formation, biographical leadership, and family ministry. He is co-author (with Richard A. Holland) of Good Arguments: Making your Case in Writing and Public Speaking (Baker Academic, 2017) and co-editor of Biblical Foundations of Leadership: Exegesis for Everyday Leaders (Kregel, 2017), and a two volume history of preaching, A Legacy of Preaching: Historical and Theological Introductions (Zondervan, 2018). He resides in Lynchburg, Virginia with his wife Lerisa and their three children.

My friend Israel Wayne returns to the show to make the case for the importance of Christian education and homeschooling. Full disclosure: I am pro homeschooling.

About the Book:  Since the beginning of the 20th century, the vast majority of Christians have embraced the idea that it is a proper role and function of the civil government to control and guide the education of children. Most Christians believe God doesn't care, one way or the other, how our children are schooled or what methods are employed. This book will use Scripture to prove otherwise. What you read in this book will radically challenge your assumptions and preconceived ideas.

  • Discover the true purpose of an education and how this affects and influences students
  • Explore a truly Biblical philosophy of education and how it compares to traditional schooling
  • Learn to apply a Biblical worldview strategically and systematically to core subjects of education

There is almost no topic that is as relevant to the future of Christianity or as controversial as the education of children. Students in school classrooms spend thousands of hours being instructed by people who are not their parents. There is almost no way to calculate what a powerful force this is for influence.

From rules to help students reason to information that will help you be a more effective teacher, this book shows the vital importance of "why" in asking students to learn the "what" and "how" of any subject. The future of your child's education and, therefore, his or her life is ultimately in your hands as a parent. Open your mind and your heart to God's Word and His truth. Much is at stake. Ask Him to give you discernment to help you understand how He sees the issue of education.

About the Author:  Israel Wayne is an author and conference speaker who has a passion for defending the Christian faith and promoting a Biblical worldview. The author of Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview, Full-Time Parenting: A Guide to Family-Based Discipleship, Questions God Asks and Questions Jesus Asks.

Israel, and his wife Brook, are homeschooling their nine children in SW Michigan. Since 1995, Israel has traveled the nation speaking on family, homeschooling, revival, discipleship, and cultural issues.

He is a frequent guest on national radio and television programs. Israel has been featured in national and international publications including TIME Magazine, The Arizona Republic, WORLD Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Israel has been featured as the keynote speaker at numerous conferences, some with over 5,000 in attendance.

Israel serves as the Director of Family Renewal, LLC and is the Site Editor for ChristianWorldview.net (a Christian apologetics site).

Carl Gallups joins me to talk about biblical prophecy and how it relates to unfolding world events, the unprecedented expansion of technology, and thousands of Jews and Muslims coming to Christ.

About the Book:  The return of Israel. Increased turmoil in the Middle East. The rise of ISIS. China and Russia's presence in the Fertile Crescent. The exponentially increasing technological explosion. The "Trojan horse" refugee crisis. America's collapsing borders. The rise of the Sodom and Gomorrah spirit. The targeting of Christians around the world and particularly in the Middle East and The United States. These are just a few prophetic fulfillments occurring in our day pointing to significant biblical times to come. The Bible is 100% accurate in regards to the ancient prophecies and ours is the first generation to see these startling events converging - and at lightning speed.

Meticulously documented with reliable sources and sound contextual biblical study, WHEN THE LION ROARS equips you to understand the gravity of the days in which we are living.

In When the Lion Roars, discover what the Bible really says about...
  • The unprecedented demonic outpouring of the Last Days,
  • The spirit of the days of Noah,
  • The connection of wanton technology growth with biblical prophecy fulfillment,
  • The spirit of Sodom and Gomorrah,
  • Apostasy in the Last Days' Church,
  • Why Turkey is central to last days' prophecy,
  • Why Israel is the centerpiece of end time prophecy,
  • The historical truth about Islam and ISIS,
  • The Shemitah effect,
  • The mystery of 666 - are we on the verge of the technological fulfillment?
  • How should Christians and the Church respond to these prophetic times,
  • And much more.
We are living in intense but exciting times. We are living in prophetically unprecedented times. Be on guard; prepare your spirit and your mind. Make certain you have a biblically balanced understanding of our generation. Be ready with wisdom and perspective. The closing chapters represent wise and biblical counsel from a long-time pastor's heart. They are filled with discernment and instruction for prophecy-days living - and laden with hope and encouragement.

We have been raised up "For such a time as this!" The Lion of God's prophetic Word is roaring. Do you hear its warning? Do you hear its call?

Michael & Aimée Spurlock share the exciting true story behind the new film ALL SAINTS and talk about what it was like seeing their story playing on the big screen.

About the Film:  ALL SAINTS is based on the inspiring true story of salesman-turned-pastor Michael Spurlock (John Corbett), the tiny church he was ordered to shut down, and a group of refugees from Southeast Asia. Together, they risked everything to plant seeds for a future that might just save them all.

After trading in his corporate sales career to become a pastor, Michael’s first assignment is All Saints, a quaint country church with a dozen members. It comes with a catch: he has to close the church doors for good and sell the prime piece of land on which it sits. While developers eagerly eye the property and the congregation mourns the inevitable, Michael and his family look forward to moving on to an established church where they can put down roots.

But when the church hesitantly begins welcoming Karen (kuh-REN) refugees from Burma—former farmers striving for a fresh start in America—Michael feels called to an improbable new mission. Toiling alongside the Karen people, the congregation attempts to turn their fertile land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills and feed its newest people.

Jeopardizing his family’s future by ignoring his superiors, Michael must choose between completing what he was assigned to do—close the church and sell the property—or listening to a still, small voice challenging the people of All Saints to risk it all and provide much-needed hope to their new community.

About the Spurlocks: The Reverend Michael Spurlock is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Nashotah House Theological Seminary. He served All Saints Episcopal Church in Smyrna, Tennessee, for three years beginning in 2007. He is currently on the clergy staff at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City. Michael, his wife, Aimee, and their two children live in New York City.

Aimée Marcoux-Spurlock is an award-winning reporter and a classically trained singer and actress. Aimee is married to Michael Spurlock, an Episcopalian priest. Their family is the subject of
a new film from AFFIRM Films and Provident Films called ALL SAINTS, based on the inspirational true story of their time at All Saints church, in Smyrna Tennessee. Aimee and Michael live in New York City with their two children.

The supernatural world is all around us. You can’t turn on the TV, go to the movies, or browse a bookstore without being exposed to its influence upon culture today. Brynne Larson may look like a normal girl—except her version of normal involves exorcism of demons and teaching people around the world that the paranormal is very real.

About the Book: The Dark Side of the Supernatural is your Behind-the-Scenes Guide to the Unseen World of the Paranormal

The supernatural world is all around us. You can’t turn on the TV, go to the movies, or browse a bookstore without being exposed to its influence upon culture today.

Since The Exorcist, movies about demon possession have increased in quantity and gore. Witchcraft invades literature, coming packaged in stories directed towards children. Zombies, ghosts, vampires, and aliens are regular characters featured everywhere from TV dramas to History Channel specials.

Some mock the supernatural. Some preach against it. Some act like it doesn’t even exist.

Brynne Larson may look like a normal girl—except her version of normal involves exorcism of demons and teaching people around the world that the paranormal is very real.

Get ready to:

  • Learn how the supernatural impacts your everyday life… from someone with practical experience with the unseen realm
  • Hear powerful stories of people who were terrorized by paranormal activity… and be inspired by their journeys to freedom
  • Receive help and healing… if you are a victim of the dark side of the supernatural

You were created to experience the supernatural. The secret is learning how to avoid the dark side.

About the Author:  Brynne Larson is an everyday college student who travels internationally teaching on the supernatural and casting out demons. Matthew W. Bates (Ph.D., University of Notre Dame) is Associate Professor of Theology at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. He is pressing the church towards a new precision: we are saved solely by allegiance to Jesus the king. Instead of faith alone, Christians must speak about salvation by allegiance alone.

About the Book:  We are saved by faith when we trust that Jesus died for our sins. This is the gospel, or so we are taught. But what is faith? And does this accurately summarize the gospel? Because faith is frequently misunderstood and the climax of the gospel misidentified, the gospel's full power remains untapped. While offering a fresh proposal for what faith means within a biblical theology of salvation, Matthew Bates presses the church toward a new precision: we are saved solely by allegiance to Jesus the king. Instead of faith alone, Christians must speak about salvation by allegiance alone. The book includes discussion questions for students, pastors, and church groups and a foreword by Scot McKnight.

About the Author:  Matthew W. Bates (PhD, University of Notre Dame) is assistant professor of theology at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois. He is the author of The Hermeneutics of the Apostolic Proclamation and The Birth of the Trinity.

Andrew T. Walker serves as the Director of Policy Studies for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. In this conversation we examine some of the core topics covered in his book God and the Transgender Debate, including:

  • Culturally, how did we get here?
  • What would Jesus say to the person experiencing gender dysphoria or identifying themselves as transgender?
  • If Christians take the golden rule to heart, what does it look like to love your transgender neighbor?
  • How can parents effectively engage their children in discussion on these topics?

About the book:  What is transgender and gender fluidity? What does God's Word actually say about these issues? How can the gospel be good news for someone experiencing gender dysphoria? How should churches respond?

This warm, faithful and careful book helps Christians understand what the Bible says about gender identity. It will help us to engage lovingly, thoughtfully and faithfully with one of the most explosive cultural discussions of our day.

If you want to learn more and love better, and are open to considering what God has to say about sex and gender, this hope-filled book is for you.

Includes a section looking at practical questions including:

- Can someone be transgender and Christian?
- Should I mind if people who are biologically the other sex are in my restroom?
- What should church leaders do if a congregation member asks for their child to be identified as the opposite gender?
- Is it true that Christian teaching is harmful and can lead to depression and higher suicide rates?
- What about people who are born intersex?

Walker serves as the Director of Policy Studies for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the denomination’s entity tasked with equipping churches to address moral, social, and ethical issues. Keith Ferrin is a coach, storyteller, and author. In this interview we talk about his new book (Bible Praying for Parents), traditional vs. self-publishing. building your platform, book marketing, serving your audience before asking for favors, effective communication, and his brand new online course.

About the Book:  As parents, we want to pray for our kids. We know we should pray for them. And yet, our prayers often feel repetitive. Or we wonder if they're making a difference. So then, how do we know what to pray? How do we know we are praying in line with God's will? How do we know we are covering every aspect of their lives (rather than only what’s urgent at the moment)?

The answer is Bible Praying.

We know the Bible is in line with God’s will. We know it is the God-breathed Word. We know it covers every aspect of life.

This book is a parent’s guide to Bible Praying.

Section One: 365 Daily Prayers. The prayers are the actual words of Scripture, with the reference, category, and focus. Insert your child’s name as you pray the Bible for and over your child.

Section Two: Bible Praying by Category. All the prayers from each category laid out together. Pray multiple Bible Prayers for Anxiety, Friendships, Temptations, Relationships, etc.

Section Three: Bible Blessings. Blessings straight from God’s Word. Say them to your kids. Pray them over your kids. Remind them of who they are and whose they are.

"Do you ever feel like you pray the same things, over and over for your kids? If we are honest, our prayers can become repetitive, robotic, and even shallow. Bible Praying for Parents immediately accelerated and deepened my prayers for my family. Every day, this book will give you a power-packed prayer from the Bible. This book is perfect for every parent (like me) who feels inadequate and insecure in prayer." Dr. Rob Rienow - Visionary Family Ministries

About the Author:  Keith Ferrin is a husband and father of three. He is the author of several books and speaks at conferences, churches, and schools around the U.S. and internationally.
