Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with New York Times bestselling author Joel Richardson about his new book Mystery Babylon: Unlocking the Bible's Greatest Prophetic Mystery (WND Books, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • First off Joel, let’s help the listeners get to know you a little bitter. Tell us some of the Joel Richardson origin story. (00:38 - 04:11)
  • One of the great influencers on the discussion of Mystery Babylon is Alexander Hislop. Help us to get a sense of the scope of his influence and some of the problems we encounter when we examine his work. (04:12 - 11:08)
  • As we look across world history, who are some of the cities and kingdoms that have been potentially identified as Mystery Babylon? (11:09 - 13:47)
  • You make the case for Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and Islam fitting the criteria for Mystery Babylon. Walk us through some of the ways this is a very plausible option. (13:48 - 20:18)
  • How does Turkey fit into the unfolding story we see taking place right now in the Middle East? (20:19 - 22:34)
  • What do you hope every reader takes away from Mystery Babylon? (22:35 - 25:27)
  • You have several books in addition to Mystery Babylon. For readers who enjoy this book, which of your other books would make a great follow up read? (25:28 - 26;16)
  • Joel, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your books, where should they go on the web? (26:17 - 26:50)

About the Book:  New York Times bestselling author Joel Richardson carefully explores what is arguably the greatest prophetic mystery in all of the Bible.

Mystery Babylon is an in-depth look at the prophecy of Revelation 17 and 18. Richardson dissects the longest prophecy in the New Testament - the final chapters of the Bible - in order to make sense of these deeply elusive and profoundly controversial passages.

At once a queen, a prostitute, and a cold-blooded killer, this great harlot waves a golden cup filled with blood. Adorned in purple and scarlet and gold and precious stones, she seduces the kings of the earth with luxury. Most commonly known, perhaps, is that she rides a beast with seven heads and ten horns. Her title is Mystery, Babylon the Great, the mother of all harlots and of the abominations of the earth.

From the early days of Christianity, believers have struggled to understand the mystery of the great harlot. Scholars and students alike have arrived at many different conclusions.

In his characteristically easy-to-understand style, Richardson works through the history of Christian interpretation of Mystery Babylon, weighing the strengths and weaknesses of each view, making a powerful case for a solution to this prophecy that will rock the prophecy world.

About the Author:  Joel Richardson is the author of several books including the New York Times bestselling Islamic Antichrist: The Shocking Truth About the Real Nature of the Beast. He also wrote Mideast Beast and is the director of the WND Films documentary End Times Eyewitness. He is an internationally recognized expert on biblical prophecy, the Middle East, and Islam and is a human rights activist and a commentator for WND.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Michael Heiser about his new book Reversing Hermon: Enoch, the Watchers, and the Forgotten Mission of Jesus Christ (Defender Publishing, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • I know we likely covered some of this ground when we last talked about your excellent book The Unseen Realm, but I think it’s worth asking again to give our listeners a bit of context for your work in this area of study. Tell us how you first got exposed to and developed an interest in things like Genesis 6:1-4, 1 Enoch, and the watchers. Where did that interest come from, how did that first develop for you? (00:38 - 02:26)
  • I know the book of 1 Enoch will be new to many of the listeners. Talk to us about what sort of literature it is, the important things we learn from it, and whether or not it’s inspired. (02:27 - 07:14)
  • Who are the watchers and what was their sin? (07:15 - 10:09)
  • What’s significant about Mt. Hermon? (10:10 - 13:05)
  • How does all of this better inform our understanding of what we see Jesus doing in the Gospels? (13:06 - 15:42)
  • Let’s keep moving ahead in the New Testament. How does this better inform what we see in both the epistles and the book of Revelation? (15:43 - 18:54)
  • What would you say to the person who is wondering why it’s important for them to be exposed to this material? How is it going to be beneficial? (18:55 - 20:58)
  • For people who want to go beyond what you share in Reversing Hermon, what other resources would you recommend? (20:59 - 23:05)
  • Mike, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about the new book, where should they go on the web? (23:06 - 23:41)

About the Book:  Reversing Hermon is a groundbreaking work. It unveils what most in the modern Church have never heard regarding how the story of the sin of the Watchers in 1 Enoch 6-16 helped frame the mission of Jesus, the messiah. Jews of the first century expected the messiah to reverse the impact of the Watchers’ transgression. For Jews of Jesus’ day, the Watchers were part of the explanation for why the world was so profoundly depraved. The messiah would not just revoke the claim of Satan on human souls and estrangement from God, solving the predicament of the Fall. He would also not only bring the nations back into relationship with the true God by defeating the principalities and powers that governed them. Jews also believed that the messiah would rescue humanity from self-destruction, the catalyst for which was the sin of the Watchers and the influence of what they had taught humankind. The role of Enoch’s retelling of Genesis 6:1-4 in how New Testament writers wrote of Jesus and the cross has been largely lost to a modern audience. Reversing Hermon rectifies that situation. Topics include:

  • Understanding Genesis 6:1-4 and the Sin of the Watchers in Their Original Context: How the ancient Mesopotamian story of the apkallu aligns with Gen 6:1-4, was preserved in 1 Enoch, and sets the stage for the theme of reversing the evil of the Watchers.
  • How the theme of reversing the transgression of the Watchers colors the gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus, his genealogy, and his ministry.
  • How the writings of Peter and Paul allude to the sin of the Watchers and present Jesus as overturning the disastrous effects of their sins against humanity.
  • How the descriptions of the antichrist, the end-times Day of the Lord, and the final judgment connect to Genesis 6 and the nephilim.

Though every topic addressed in Reversing Hermon can be found in scholarly academic literature, Reversing Hermon is the first book to gather this information and make it accessible to Bible students everywhere. The book also includes lengthy appendices on the ancient debate on the inspiration of the book of 1 Enoch, New Testament allusions to the book, and academic resources for studying 1 Enoch and the Book of Giants from the Dead Sea Scrolls.

About the Author:  Michael Heiser is a scholar in the fields of biblical studies and the ancient Near East. He is Scholar-in-Residence at Logos Bible Software. Mike earned his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004. He also earned an M.A. in the same field at Wisconsin, along with an M.A. in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania (major fields: Ancient Israel and Egyptology).

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Ron Citlau about his new book Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted: Biblical Direction for Friends, Family Members, and Those Struggling With Homosexuality (Bethany House, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • You previous book Compassion without Compromise released back in 2014. How has the landscape of this conversation changed since then? (00:40 - 2:16)
  • The subtitle suggests that you have a broad audience in mind for Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted. Who are the readers you had in your mind’s eye as you were writing the book. (02:17 - 03:06)
  • Same-Sex attraction is a part of your own personal journey and story. How did Jesus meet you in the midst of your struggle? (03:07 - 04:58)
  • What are some of the obstacles that can keep a same-sex attracted person from receiving God’s gifts for them? (04:59 - 05:58)
  • Why is same-sex marriage a harmful thing, rather than a gift for those who struggle? (05:59 - 08:45)
  • You say that the church is one of God’s gifts to same-sex strugglers. Too often, the church has been a place of condemnation rather than compassion. How can we minister to those who are sexually broken in a way that is helpful for them? (08:46 -  11:12)
  • How can following Jesus bring hope and healing to the person struggling with same-sex attraction? (11:13 - 16:32)
  • If we had the technology to beam you in front of every reader as they get to the last page of Hope for the Same-Sex Attracted, what parting challenge or word of encouragement would you want to share with each of them? (16:33 - 18:07)
  • Ron, if the listeners want to find out more about you and learn more about your new book, where should they go on the web? (18:08 - 18:17)

About the Book:  Sometimes in our big-picture discussions about homosexuality and same-sex marriage, we lose sight of the person in the middle of the struggle. Whether that struggler is you or someone you care about, there are two fundamental questions that need to be answered: How can someone with same-sex attraction be faithful to Jesus? And how can everyone else support and encourage them in this pursuit?

With clarity and grace, author and pastor Ron Citlau will help you think through every option the Bible offers--and what it does not. Having personally dealt with same-sex attraction, walked with others still struggling, and pastored those with gay loved ones, he encourages readers to think deeply and biblically about heterosexual marriage, singleness, celibacy, and more.

Discover the remarkable gifts God provides to the same-sex-attracted Christian who desires to faithfully follow Jesus. And learn how others can come alongside them with love, encouragement, and grace.

About the Author:  Ron Citlau graduated from the University of California, Riverside and Western Theological Seminary. He has served in ministry positions in Southern California and Kansas City. He is the pastor of Calvary Church in Orland Park, Illinois, part of the Reformed Church in America.

Ron struggled with same-sex attraction his whole life and has worked with and walked alongside many others who have struggled with sexual brokenness, as well as equipping pastoral leaders to serve those dealing with sexual sin. He also worked with Andrew Comiskey, producing curriculum on sexual healing now used by Desert Stream Ministries in hundreds of churches throughout the country. When he isn't working, he loves to be with his wife, Amy, and their four boys: Jack, Sawyer, Eli, and Crosby.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with John Bombaro about his and Adam Francisco's new book The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics.

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • First off John, since this is your first time on the show, let’s give the listeners a chance to get to know you you better. Take us into the John Bombaro origin story. (00:39 - 03:01)
  • What was the journey like moving from Catholicism to Presbyterianism and eventually ending up Lutheran? (03:03 - 04:13)
  • What area did you study for your PhD? (04:14 - 06:44)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. Was there a catalyst or an aha moment where you and Adam knew it was the right time to bring this book to life? (06:45 - 09:10)
  • Tell us about a few of the contributors you and Adam partnered with for this project. (09:11 - 12:39)
  • One thing that stands out about your book is that you’re bringing out both negations, things that Christianity is not and also positive affirmations of what Christianity actually is. Why was it important to include both in your book? (12:40 - 14:10)
  • Give us a rundown of some of the critics and their specific criticisms you’re taking on in the book. (14:11 - 16:33)
  • Your specific contribution to the book takes on John Dominic Crossans’ Antichrist. Explain a bit of the ground you cover there. (16:34 - 20:20)
  • If I had the ability to beam you in front of every reader as they finished the last page of No The Resurrection Fact, what challenge or parting word of encouragement would you share with each of them? (20:21 - 21:35)
  • John, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about The Resurrection Fact, where should they go on the web? (21:36 - 22:15)

About the Book:  As the team did with the book, Making the Case For Christianity (CPH), Drs. Bombaro and Francisco bring together a variety of contemporary Lutheran apologists to respond to a wide array of challenges to the heart of the Christian faith.

Each chapter addresses a specific argument from a popular, non-Christian author and offers a clear and concise rebuttal and argument for the resurrection.

The editors have found able representatives from the disciplines of biblical studies, history, philosophy, and the legal profession to write each chapter.

The book is accessible, written for a broad audience, and is ultimately designed to equip its readers for the apologetics task.

About the Author:  John Bombaro is senior pastor at Grace Luther Church, San Diego, and a chaplain with the United States Navy. He is a regular contributor to Modern Reformation and the author of Jonathan Edwards' Vision of Reality.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Caspar McCloud returns to the show today to dig deeper into the topics he covers in his book Unmasking the Future: A Guide to End-Time Prophecies and Today's Headlines.

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • Unmasking the Future has been out for nearly 6 months. How have readers responded? (01:14 - 11:56)
  • When did you first encounter material on nephilim giants and fallen angels and what made you decide to dig even deeper and begin studying it? (11:57 -  16:18)
  • What are some of the artifacts and other types of evidence you and L.A. Marzulli have discovered on some of your expeditions? (16:19 - 21:03)
  • Any resources you’d recommend from L.A. Marzulli for those who want to dig deeper into the nephilim topic? (21:04 - 21:13)
  • Share a bit about the giant of Kandahar. (21:14 - 25:48)
  • Now let’s move to some of the ground you cover in chapter six. Who or what are you referring to when you use the term illuminati? (25:49 - 29:58)
  • How do Freemasons and the Illuminati play into the founding of our nation? (29:59 - 35:40)
  • How are you both hoping to challenge and encourage people as you’re sharing on these difficult topics? (35:41 - 40:47)
  • Tell us about the Hear the Watchmen conference taking place in Dallas, TX from 3/31 - 4/2/2017. (40:48 - 43:29)
  • Caspar, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about Unmasking the Future, where should they go on the web? (43:30 - 46:21)

About the Book:  The truth is out there... only if you are able to see it through the lens of the Holy Scriptures.

Wars, rumors of war, famine, pestilences and earthquakes are increasing. Have we actually entered into unprecedented times? Legends of Nephilim giants with supernatural powers did they really exist? Is there any truth to the theories of ancient astronauts existing as alien beings from other planets? Could they actually be inner-dimensional entities from the Second Heavens? Is this part of Jacob's Trouble and the coming Great Deception of the Holy Scripture forewarned about? Are we in fact nearing the time of the end? Is there a connection here unfolding today with the  movement and the information Jesus Christ of Nazareth stated about his return being as like in the Days of Noah? Can you face the future without entertaining the spirit of fear? With this book we reference what the Lord says that will give you hope, courage, and faith so you can discern the times ahead in confidence and without fear because the truth makes us free!

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • Let’s begin with the book’s cover. It features a picture of you with a black censor bar covering your eyes and your mouth. What did you think the first time you saw that cover and how does it effectively communicate what readers are going to encounter in the book? (00:43 - 03:53)

  • Give us a look behind the scenes. What was it like spending your early years inside a polygamist cult? (05:53 - 12:35)

  • Every book writing experience is a life-changing journey. How did working on The Polygamist’s Daughter impact you? (32:57 - 36:05)
  • What was it like to transition from speaking your story to finally putting it down in writing? (36:07 - 40:34)
  • What was it like to read the manuscript to your mom? (40:35 - 45:07)

About the Book:  My father had thirteen wives and more than fifty children . . .

This is the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. Ervil’s criminal activity kept Anna and her siblings constantly on the run from the FBI. Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I speak with Jason Mitchell about his new book No Easy Jesus: How the Toughest Choices Lead to the Greatest Life (Tyndale Momentum, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • First off Jason, let’s give the listeners a chance to get to know you you a bit better. Give us a window into the Jason Mitchell origin story. (00:40 - 06:32)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. Was there a catalyst or an aha moment where you knew it was the right time to bring this book to life? (06:33 - 10:53)
  • When I shared a picture of your book on social media, a lot of my friends responded to the cover art. Talk to us about how the cover illustrates what people are going to encounter in the book. (10:54 - 14:57)
  • In the book, you write very candidly that “Believing in Jesus has left us disappointed.” I believe many Christians are afraid to admit this, but in their heart they know they’re not experiencing the fullness of what they’d hoped or longed for when they first met Jesus. Why is it that so many Christians have become disillusioned with their faith? (14:58 - 19:03)
  • One thing that really hits home for me is the idea that Jesus can easily become the “background music” to a heavily scheduled life. What’s the solution to bringing faith to the forefront? (19:04 - 24:53)
  • Many are concerned about the lack of commitment to spiritual faith among millennials. What’s your take on the next generation's spirituality? (24:54 - 32:22)
  • Every book project is a journey, how were you personally changed or impacted as your were writing No Easy Jesus? (32:23 - 35:14)
  • If I had the ability to beam you in front of every reader as they finished the last page of No Easy Jesus, what challenge or parting word of encouragement would you share with each of them? (35:15 - 36:54)
  • Jason, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about No Easy Jesus, where should they go on the web? (36:55 - 37:16)

About the Book:  “Too many Christians I know have grown bored and frustrated with just ‘believing’ in Jesus. They’ve settled for salvation someday, not realizing they can experience a fuller life today.”

Many Christians share a secret. Few of us dare to speak it out loud, because doing so would feel like taking a slap at God―and it wouldn’t make us look good either. Yet this secret is affecting us painfully on the inside every single day.

Here it is: Believing in Jesus has left us disappointed.

At one point we were thrilled and hopeful about living a life of trusting in Christ. But over time our experience has failed to live up to our expectations or make the difference we thought it would. So we’ve begun to think: “This can’t be all there is to being a Christian.”

If that’s what you’ve been thinking . . . you’re right.

No Easy Jesus holds the key to moving forward when you’re bored, disillusioned, and beaten down by faith-as-usual. It’s a clarion challenge to wake up each day and choose Jesus all over again; to make the tough, gritty choices that align your way with His and lead to true fullness of life. Because when you decided to follow Jesus, you didn’t sign up for what was easiest―you signed up for what was best.

About the Author:  Jason is teaching pastor at LCBC (Lives Changed By Christ) Church, a thriving church with locations throughout Pennsylvania. Through speaking and writing, Jason has influenced thousands of people to pursue Jesus with passion. He gets fired up about finding new and compelling ways to make the message of Christ relevant to peoples everyday lives.

During his free time, you’ll find Jason drinking coffee, getting a quick run in, watching the University of Alabama beat other teams in football, and listening to all things rock-and-roll. He lives, works, and writes outside of Philadelphia with his wife, Jenny, and their two children, Sienna and Silas.

About the Book:  Is God Just a Distant Concept? An Award-Winning Religion Correspondent is Convinced the Answer is No and Explores the Possible Relationship with Our Creator

Fox News Religion Correspondent Lauren Green uses her wealth of stories, vast network of contacts, and her own extensive study of theology to take the reader on a unique journey of spiritual discovery. With few female authors writing in the field of theology, Green provides an important perspective to all who wish to move closer to not only a deeper relationship with God but an understanding of what makes that possible.

Green gathers insight from some amazing guides along the way, through personal conversations with some of the leading minds in the world on the topic of Christianity. These include:

  • Timothy Keller
  • John Piper
  • Alister McGrath
  • William Lane Craig
  • John Lennox
  • Sir John Polkinghorne
  • Amy Beckman
  • Elizabeth Lev
  • … and many more

Is God simply an accessory that we carry with us? Something similar to what we might download from a music site to suit our personal tastes—a personal assistant in a way? Or is He His law, His structure, and His authoritative Word contained in the Holy Scripture, an objective reality to which you daily shape your life? If we believe or know we should believe that it’s the latter, how do we make this happen? How do we live joyfully under God’s will in a world so drenched in the will of human desire?

Lighthouse Faith explores the heart of the Christian doctrine and a pathway of perceiving God as an interactive hands-on presence; a caring and loving being. The first commandment is a life-giving force loaded with information about the world in which we live. This law stands atop the other nine commandments as a beacon of light, illuminating the created order, just as a lighthouse lamp shines in a darkened space, heralding a way to safety.

About the Author:  Lauren Green currently serves as Fox News Channel's (FNC) chief religion correspondent based in the New York bureau. She joined FNC in 1996.

Prior to joining FNC, Green served as a weekend news anchor and correspondent at WBBM-TV (CBS-2) in Chicago, IL. From 1988 to 1993, she was a general assignment reporter at KSTP-TV (ABC-5) in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Outside of her career at FNC, Green is a reputable concert pianist with a degree in piano performance from The University of Minnesota. She has interviewed some of the most prominent people in the classical music world including Placido Domingo, Pierre Boulez, Joshua Bell and has covered such events as the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and opening night of The Metropolitan Opera. Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with Derek Gilbert to discuss his new book The Great Inception: Satan's Psyops from Eden to Armageddon.

Here's the ground we cover in our conversation:

  • First off Derek, since this is your first time on the show, let’s help the listeners get to know you better. Tell us a bit of the Derek Gilbert origin story. (00:36 - 07:16)
  • Talk to us about your work at SkyWatch TV. (07:17 - 11:03)
Next let’s get into the story behind the book. Was there a particular circumstance or AHA moment that set you down the path of this writing project? (11:04 - 17:50)
  • The book is titled The Great Inception: Satan’s Psyops from Eden to Armageddon. The two words that stand out to me are inception and psyops. Explain how you’re applying those two key words. (17:51 - 20:30)
  • As we’re reading the book, you introduce us to a number of different mountains. Why are they important and what is the holy mountain where the final battle of the war will be fought? (20:31 - 32:02)
  • Many people don’t know what to do with the Tower of Babel account when the read about it in their Bible. Tell us why the What’s the real reason God stopped it. (32:03 - 37:58)
  • Tell us about the the connection between the Titans of Greek mythology, the Nephilim of Genesis 6, the Rephaim, and the people who have been fighting to destroy Israel from the time of Moses to the present day. (37:59 - 48:17)
  • Where and how did Jesus battle with the rebel Gods? (48:18 - 51:45)
  • Give us the possible end-times scenario that includes the most diabolical double-cross in history. (51:46 - 57:37)
  • What do you hope readers take away from the book and for the listeners who are on the fence about whether they need to read your book, why do they need to engage with this material? (57:38 - 1:00:50)
  • Are additional resources you’d recommend for people who’d want to dig deeper into these topics? (1:00:51 - 1:02:32)
  • Derek, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your books and your various shows, where should they go on the web? (1:02:33 - 1:03:08)

About the Book:  You stand on a battlefield, surrounded by an enemy that you’ve been told doesn’t exist.

This is a classic example of a PSYOP–a mission to change what you believe by feeding you information that’s inaccurate, incomplete, or an outright lie.

The Great Inception shatters this illusion. Bible stories you’ve known since childhood are shown for what they are: Accounts of supernatural battles between God and the gods.

In this paradigm-shifting book, Derek Gilbert shows that the Bible is anything but a boring list of thou-shalt-nots; it’s an epic tale of war between God and the rebel gods who want to steal His throne before He can restore humanity to its rightful place in the divine council.

About the Author:  Derek P. Gilbert hosts SkyWatchTV, a Christian television program that airs on several national networks, the long-running interview podcast A View from the Bunker, and co-hosts SciFriday, a weekly television program that looks at science news with his wife, author and analyst Sharon K. Gilbert.

Derek is a Christian, a husband and father, author of the novels The God Conspiracy and Iron Dragons, and a contributing author to the nonfiction anthologies God’s Ghostbusters, Blood on the Altar, I Predict: What 12 Global Experts Believe You Will See by 2025, and When Once We Were a Nation.

He’s been a speaker at Bible prophecy conferences in recent years, focusing on the prophetic implications of Dominion theology and the transhumanist movement.

The evidence for the authenticity of the New Testament awakened Derek to the spiritual war raging around us. It is this battle that inspires him.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with Trevin Wax to talk about his brand new book This Is Our Time: Everyday Myths in Light of the Gospel (B&H Books, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in our conversation:

  • First off Trevin, since this is your first time on the show, let’s help the listeners get to know you better. Tell us a bit of the Trevin Wax origin story. (00:35 - 01:48)
  • Talk to us about your current role at B&H. What does a Bible & Reference Publisher actually do? (01:49 - 02:40)
  • Next let’s get into the story behind the book. Was there a particular circumstance or AHA moment that set you down the path of this writing project? (02:41 - 04:27)
  • In the book you outline everyday myths culture is teaching us, describing our smartphones as myth-tellers. What are some of the deceptions our smartphones are planting in our hearts and minds? (04:28 - 08:04)
  • You say that Hollywood and the Bible are after the same thing. What are they both striving for? (08:05 - 10:09)
  • I know many Christians see their faith as a private part of their life. Why is that a problem? (10:10 - 14:05)
  • Trevin, if we had the technology available to beam you in front of every reader as they finish This is Our Time, what parting challenge or word of encouragement would you want to share with each of them? (14:06 - 16:14)
  • One last question before we wrap up. I know B&H has been making some significant investments into the Christian Standard Bible. What’s on the horizon for the CSB in the near future? (16:15 - 19:50)
  • Trevin, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your books, where should they go on the web? (19:51 - 20:24)

About the Book:  Uncertain. Confused. Overwhelmed.

Many Christians feel bombarded by the messages they hear and the trends they see in our rapidly changing world.

How can we resist being conformed to the pattern of this world? What will faithfulness to Christ look like in these tumultuous times? How can we be true to the gospel in a world where myths and false visions of the world so often prevail?

In This is Our Time, Trevin Wax provides snapshots of twenty-first-century American Life. in order to help Christians understand the times. By analyzing our common beliefs and practices (smartphone habits, entertainment intake, and our views of shopping, sex, marriage, politics, and life’s purpose), Trevin helps us see through the myths of society to the hope of the gospel.

As faithful witnesses to Christ, Trevin writes, we must identify the longing behind society’s most cherished myths (what is good, true, beautiful), expose the lie at the heart of these myths (what is false and damaging), and show how the gospel tells a better story – one that exposes the lie but satisfies the deeper longing.

About the Author:  Trevin Wax is the Bible and Reference Publisher for LifeWay Christian Resources. A former missionary to Romania, Trevin hosts a blog at The Gospel Coalition and regularly contributes to The Washington Post, Religion News Service, World, and Christianity Today, which named him one of thirty-three millennials shaping the next generation of evangelicals. His previous books include Counterfeit Gospels, Clear Winter Nights, and Gospel-Centered Teaching. He and his wife Corina have three children.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with Bethel Church leader Bill Johnson to talk about his book Hosting the Presence: Unveiling Heaven's Agenda, which has been a HUGE blessing to me in the current season of my spiritual journey.

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • First off Bill, let’s get into a bit of your backstory. When did you first discover this idea of “hosting the Presence” and how did you cultivate a deeper hunger and desire for experiencing more of God’s Presence in your life? (00:37 - 01:23)
  • When I’ve talked with others who have read Hosting the Presence, the one illustration they often mention is the dove resting on our shoulder. Explain how this picture helps us to better understand what it looks like to host God’s Presence. (01:24 - 3:33)
  • What are some of the ways the Holy Spirit manifests himself on individuals and also corporately, say in a larger group setting and how should we be ready to respond when we see the Spirit moving? (3:34 - 5:12)
  • In the book you say, “my strongest tool for discovering God’s Presence is my affection for Him.” Give us a few examples of what that looks like. (5:13 - 8:32)
  • Towards the end of the book you say that if you have 10 minutes to pray, take about 8 minutes for worship. It’s amazing what you can pray for in 2 minutes. That’s a principle you learned from Derek prince. Talk to us about the ways in which worship has been the number one way God has taught you about His Presence. (8:33 - 12:27)
  • You say that encounters with God through His Word is a close second to worship. How has God used His Word to teach you about His Presence? (12:28 - 15:24)
  • I know like me, you’re a big fan of church history. Would you mind pointing us to one or two individuals who were strong carriers of God’s Presence? (15:25 - 17:54)
  • Bill, as we get ready to close, would you mind praying for the listeners and inviting them into a deeper experience of God’s Presence? (17:55 - 19:24)
  • Bill, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about your ministry and resources, where should they go on the web? (19:25 - 20:28)

About the Book:  Let the Spirit live inside you!

Are you hungry for an encounter with Jesus? Do you want to make an impact on the world?

In this power-packed book, Bill Johnson discusses how you can be a person who hosts the Presence of God. Though all believers obviously have the Spirit of God within them, there is more that enables you to be so full that you overflow His Spirit into your world. Take a journey and meet many great prophets and kings from the Old Testament who were known as people of the Presence—people who, in Johnson’s words, “God wanted to be with.” In this succinct and powerful book, Johnson encourages you toward a pursuit of the Presence of God above all else.

In this book, you will discover: How to pay attention to the Holy Spirit and respond to Him. How the Holy Spirit manifests Himself. Biblical figures who were hungry for more of God’s Spirit and learned to host Him. Stories of Presence-filled revivalists and personal encounters with the Presence!

Bill Johnson writes: “We are enabled to partner with the Kingdom of Heaven and see it released here on earth! The Presence of God within us will bring reformation to the world around us—encountering a loving God!”

Host more of Him today!

About the Author:  Bill Johnson is the senior leader of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with Kynan Bridges to discuss his new book Unmasking the Accuser: How to Fight Satan's Favorite Lie (Whitaker House, 2017).

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • Let’s begin with the author origin story. Tell us a bit about your background and why were you the right guy God set in place to write this book? (00:38 - 03:11)
  • Talk to us about some of the ways this problem manifests itself not only in the church, but also in businesses and organizations. (03:12 - 05:26)
  • How have you applied this message in your own life, in your own personal relationships? (05:27 - 07:29)
  • One of the terms from the book that was new to me is the idea of an offense broker. Explain that that means and why we need to be aware of it. (07:30 - 09:05)
  • You had a vision where God revealed to you Satan’s agenda for the bride of Christ, the church. What was that vision and what does Motel 6 have to do with Jesus’ agenda? (09:06 - 14:07)
  • What final challenge or encouragement do you want to share with every person who reads your book? (14:08 - 16:01)
  • Kynan shares a closing prayer with the listeners. (16:02 - 17:12)
  • Where can people go on the web to connect with you and find out more about your ministry and books? (17:13 - 17:31)

About the Book:  When was the last time a Christian hurt you?

The demonic trio of slander, gossip, and offense has gained huge momentum both in our society and in the church. They ruin marriages, relationships, destroy churches, and discredit those in spiritual leadership. Even worse, instead of fighting them, believers daily aid these spirits. And daily, other believers fall victim. The church's main problem today is a lack of love, forgiveness, and unity.

Satan's favorite lie is that spiritual attacks always come from outside—that Christians can't hurt each other. But when Pastor Kynan Bridges rips the mask off of the accuser, the truth is revealed: Satan's spirits of slander, gossip, and offense are determined to tear the kingdom apart, and they use believers to do it—leading to bitterness and spiritual disease.

With a careful study of the Word of God, Pastor Kynan shows a way out. In this book, you will learn how to:

  • Recognize the devastation of slander
  • Identify the satanic nature of gossip
  • Avoid the temptation to be hurt and offended
  • Release those who have wounded you
  • Use love and forgiveness as a powerful weapon to walk in victory over the enemy, the accuser of the brethren.

About the Author:  Pastor Kynan T. Bridges through his profound revelation of the Word of God and dynamic teaching ministry has revolutionized the lives of many in the body of Christ. Through his practical approach to applying the deep biblical truths of the Word of God, Pastor Kynan reveals the authority and identity of the New Covenant believer. He is the Senior Pastor of Grace & Peace Global Fellowship in Tampa, Florida where he lives with his wife Gloria, and their four children. God has placed on Pastor Kynan a peculiar anointing for understanding and teaching the Scriptures along with the gift of prophecy and healing. Pastor Kynan and his wife Gloria, through an Apostolic Anointing, are committed to equipping the body of Christ to live in the supernatural everyday and fulfill the Great Commission. His desire is to see the nations transformed by the unconditional love of God.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with George Barna to discuss American Culture & Faith Institute's Worldview Measurement Project.

Here's the ground we cover in this conversation:

  • I understand that this is the largest national worldview survey ever conducted, by American Culture & Faith Institute. It looks you worked with around 6,000 participants for this survey. Give us a sense of the variety of the people who participated in the survey. (00:35 - 01:42)
  • What are some of the key elements that differentiate this ACFI Worldview Measurement Project from other studies? (01:43 - 02:35)
  • When you tallied the results, you scored in 3 separate areas. Talk to us about those. (02:36 - 05:01)
  • You say that integrated disciples lead very different lives from people who lack a biblical worldview. What are some of the ways they differentiated themselves? (05:02 - 06:55)
  • Another observation that surprised me is that regular religious activity does not insure somebody has a biblical worldview. Can you comment on that? (06:57 - 08:43)
  • As you look back on all the data you collected for this survey, is there anything surprised you or stood out as unexpected? (08:44 - 10:19)
  • George, if people want to connect with you and find out more about this survey and more about American Culture and Faith Institute, where should they go on the web? (10:20 - 11:15)

About the Survey:  More than 100 million adults in America claim to have a biblical worldview! Are they right? Does it matter?

A series of nationwide surveys conducted by the American Culture & Faith Institute (ACFI) addressed the question of how many Americans have a biblical worldview. Interviewing 6,000 people from three distinct populations – the general public, theologically conservative Protestant pastors, and SAGE Cons – the surveys produced some startling results. But does it matter?

“It’s very important to know how many people have a biblical worldview because peoples’ behavior is driven by their beliefs – we do what we believe. In other words, our worldview determines the choices we make and the resulting actions we take,” explained research veteran George Barna, who directed the studies for ACFI. “Everyone has a worldview. The critical question is which one people have embraced. If we want to transform our culture then we will need to change the choices people make that produce that culture. And in order to change those choices we must identify the beliefs that led to those choices.”

While it may sound complex or even impractical, understanding the concept of a worldview is not complicated. A worldview is the mental framework that helps people to make sense of their world. It serves as a filter to help us understand and respond to reality. Because a worldview determines what is considered to be good or bad, valuable or worthless, righteous or evil, right or wrong, and so forth, a person’s worldview is an indispensible mechanism for each of us to cope with life. Similarly, it is critical to understand if we are seeking to comprehend who we are and where we are going as a nation.

Surprisingly few studies have been conducted to measure the proportion of people who have a biblical worldview – or other widely recognized worldviews, such as secular humanism, postmodernism, existentialism, pantheism, or nihilism. The ACFI study is designed to serve as a benchmark for annual updates on the proportion of Americans who have a biblical worldview.

For more on this groundbreaking survey, visit CultureFaith.com.

About George Barna:  George Barna is the Executive Director of the American Culture and Faith Institute (a division of United in Purpose). He founded the Barna Research Group in 1984 (now The Barna Group) and has been President of Metaformation, a faith development organization, since 2009. He has served several hundred parachurch ministries, thousands of Christian churches, and many other non-profit and for-profit organizations as well as the U.S. military. He has also been a pollster in three presidential campaigns. Barna has written more than 50 books, mostly addressing cultural trends, leadership, spiritual development, and church dynamics. They include New York Times bestsellers and several award-winning books. He has sold more books based on survey research related to matters of faith than any author in American history. After graduating summa cum laude from Boston College, Barna earned two Master’s degrees from Rutgers University and has a doctorate from Dallas Baptist University. He attends Mission Church in Ventura.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with Dianne Leman to discuss her brand new book We're Pregnant! How to Receive God's Cure for Infertility.

Here's the ground we cover in today's conversation:

  • First off Di, tell us a bit of the Dianne Leman origin story. I’d love to hear more about your family background, how you and Happy met, and when it was that your first encountered Jesus. (00:38 - 16:45)
  • You grew up in a church environment that didn’t believe in miracles. How did people react when you miraculously became pregnant? (16:46 - 19:04)
  • How did you begin ministering to others struggling with infertility as you were now starting to have your own children? (19:05 - 23:20)
  • People struggling with infertility experience a lot of discouragement. What sorts of truths would you share with them to build their faith and help them to begin moving towards a place where they believe change and healing is actually possible? (23:21 - 30:26)
  • Part two of the book helps build the reader’s faith and part three gives them some concrete action steps of praying, believing, partnering, and never giving up. Talk to us about those. (30:27 - 36:56)
  • What do you hope the reader takes away from your book, both those who are struggling with infertility and those who and ministering in this area? (36:57 - 39:38)
  • Di, if the listeners want to find out more about you and about your brand new book, where should they go on the web? (39:39 - 40:51)

About the Book:  If you have longed to shout, “We’re pregnant!” but have lost hope of ever doing so, this book will restore your hope. Dianne Leman shares her own story of receiving God’s cure for her hopeless infertility after she and her husband exhausted all their natural and medical options. Now the mother of five, grandmother of 16, and pastor to thousands, Dianne discovered how much God wants to cure infertility in every couple. This book is for you, whether you know God or not—you might have no faith at all, a weak or wavering faith, or a deep and abiding faith in God. His love and healing are not bound by our faith or worldview—thank God, literally! Hundreds of couples from all over the world have implemented the lessons outlined in this book. They have received answers to their dilemmas of: "It’s impossible for us to get pregnant. There is nothing medically wrong, but we still can’t conceive. We don’t even know if we even believe in God or how to pray! We don’t know what else to do." Hundreds have had hope restored and have received God’s cure for infertility and the gift of children. You will be encouraged as you read the stories of others and learn how you can apply the same lessons to receive God’s cure for infertility. You, too, may soon be singing, “We’re pregnant!”

About the Author:  Dianne Leman married her University of Illinois sweetheart, Happy, and together they dreamed of successful careers in finance and education and of raising a large family. However, Dianne had a devastating struggle with infertility and a dire diagnosis of no hope, no children. Their hopelessness gave way to a surprise encounter with a miracle-working God, and after seven years of marriage, they became pregnant with their first son. This so revolutionized their lives that they started a small gathering in their home that eventually became a church, The Vineyard Church of Central Illinois, in Urbana, Illinois. Together Dianne and Happy lead this church of over 3,000 people. A graduate of the University of Illinois , Vineyard Leadership Institute and Vineyard Bible Institute, Dianne serves on the National Executive Board for the Vineyard Churches of America. She also leads the national teams for Women in Leadership and Spiritual Renewal. In her free time, Dianne loves reading books, walking with her husband, swimming in her pool, and playing with her many grandchildren.

  • What has God continually shown you about the importance of worship and praise? How can that shift the atmosphere around us? (20:53 - 24:45)
  • The book has many practical prayers and activation steps throughout. How are you hoping each reader is impacted though this book? (24:46 - 26:38)
  • In the book you mention having a sword in the spirit for warfare. I’d never heard that before, so give us an explanation for what that is. (26:39 - 28:56)
  • Ana prays for the listener who may have been challenged by this conversation and also for the listener who wants to learn more about the seer gifting. (28:57 - 30:13)
  • Ana, if the listeners want to connect with you and find out more about The Seer’s Path, where should they go on the web? (30:14 - 31:10)

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Today I sit down with writer and reporter David Sax to talk about his insightful book The Revenge of Analog: Real Things and Why They Matter (PublicAffairs, 2016).

Here's the ground we cover it today's interview:

  • The David Sax origin story. (00:36 - 01:18)
  • The story behind the book. How did you discover the surprising fact that analog is making a comeback? (01:19 - 05:08)
  • The revenge of vinyl. (05:09 - 10:59)
  • The revenge of paper. (11:00 - 13:00)
  • The revenge of board games. (13:01 - 19:21)
  • The revenge of print (books). (19:22 - 24:00)
  • The revenge of analog in digital. (24:01 -  27:42)
  • What did this project teach you about sabbath and rest?   (27:43 - 31:59)
  • What challenge or encouragement would you like to share with ever reader as they get to the last page of your book? (32:00 - 32:41)
  • For somebody looking to be a writer or a reporter, what are one or two core tools they’re going to want to be exposed to, to help them be more successful? (32:42 - 33:34)
  • Any daily routines or habits that have been a key part of your ongoing success? (33:35 - 36:54)
  • Where can listeners connect with you on the web and find out more about The Revenge of Analog? (36:55 - 37:26)

About the Book:  A funny thing happened on the way to the digital utopia. We've begun to fall back in love with the very analog goods and ideas the tech gurus insisted that we no longer needed. Businesses that once looked outdated, from film photography to brick-and-mortar retail, are now springing with new life. Notebooks, records, and stationery have become cool again. Behold the Revenge of Analog.

David Sax has uncovered story after story of entrepreneurs, small business owners, and even big corporations who've found a market selling not apps or virtual solutions but real, tangible things. As e-books are supposedly remaking reading, independent bookstores have sprouted up across the country. As music allegedly migrates to the cloud, vinyl record sales have grown more than ten times over the past decade. Even the offices of tech giants like Google and Facebook increasingly rely on pen and paper to drive their brightest ideas.

Sax's work reveals a deep truth about how humans shop, interact, and even think. Blending psychology and observant wit with first-rate reportage, Sax shows the limited appeal of the purely digital life-and the robust future of the real world outside it.

About the Author: David Sax is a writer and reporter who specializes in business and culture. His work appears regularly in Bloomberg Businessweek, the New Yorker's Currency blog, and other publications. He is the author of Save the Deli, which won a James Beard Award for Writing and Literature, and The Tastemakers. He lives in Toronto.

Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Scott Sauls is back on the show today to share about his book Jesus Outside the Lines: A Way Forward for Those Who Are Tired of Taking Sides (Tyndale House Publishers, 2015).

Here's the ground we cover in this episode:

  • The book opens with you stating, “I decided to write this book because I am tired. Tired of taking sides, that is.” Tell us about the season of your life that this book emerged from. What sorts of questions were you wrestling with at the time? (00:37 - 01:44)
  • Another thing you talk about in the introduction is “outrage porn.” Explain what that is and give us some examples of where we’ve all likely seen this on full display in our culture over the past 3-6 months? (01:45 - 06:48)
  • If I were to write a list of the top 5 sermon topics that will make your parishioners squirm, I’m guessing tithing would be near the top. In chapter four, you call out a study reported in Relevant magazine and share that if American Christians began to tithe regularly, global hunger, starvation, and death from preventable diseases could be relieved within five years. If this is truly the case, you’d think we’d be going for that with all we’re worth. Talk to us about wealth, greed, contentedness, and generosity, why do Christians struggle so much in these areas? (06:49 - 12:36)
  • While sexuality has always been a hot button issue for the church, the questions that people are asking today are far different than they were even 5-10 years ago. In chapter eight, you say that God is both in favor of chastity and in favor of sexual freedom. Take a few minutes to help us build a biblical grid for how we can process and lovingly respond to the questions our family, friends and neighbors are asking about this topic? (12:37 - 18:48)
  • I think one of the most humbling challenges of preparing a sermon or a writing a book is that we’re always in essence preaching to ourselves. Was there any particular part of Jesus Outside the Lines that was especially challenging for you to write? (18:49 - 20:30)
  • Jesus Outside the Lines is nearing its two year anniversary, so you’ve had a lot of time for readers to share feedback with you. Are there any common themes or questions that have  come back to you? Anything that surprised you? (20:31 - 22:19)
  • If Jesus Outside the Lines were releasing for the very first time in 2017, is there anything you would add or say differently? (22:20 -23:40)
  • Scott, if you could have a 5 minute conversation with every reader who finishes Jesus Outside the Lines, how would you challenge or encourage them? (23:41 - 24:58)
  • Are there any morning or evening that you’ve found to make you more productive with your writing and help you both start and end your day well? (24:59 - 28:48)
  • What about getting into a groove or flow state for your writing? What does that look like for you? (28:49 - 30:00)
  • Any tools or apps that are an indispensible part of your writing process? (30:01 - 30:42)
  • Where can people go on the web to learn more about you and your books? (30:43 - 31:06)

About the Book:  Whether the issue of the day on Twitter, Facebook, or cable news is our sexuality, political divides, or the perceived conflict between faith and science, today's media pushes each one of us into a frustrating clash between two opposing sides. Polarizing, us-against-them discussions divide us and distract us from thinking clearly and communicating lovingly with others. Scott Sauls, like many of us, is weary of the bickering and is seeking a way of truth and beauty through the conflicts. Jesus Outside the Lines presents Jesus as this way. Scott shows us how the words and actions of Jesus reveal a response that does not perpetuate the destructive fray. Jesus offers us a way forward - away from harshness, caricatures and stereotypes. In Jesus Outside the Lines, you will experience a fresh perspective of Jesus, who will not (and should not) fit into the sides.

About the Author:  In March 2012, Scott began serving as the Senior Minister of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lives with his wife Patti and two daughters, Abby and Ellie. Previously, Scott was a lead and preaching pastor for Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, where he worked alongside Dr. Timothy Keller. He has also planted churches in Kansas City and St. Louis, and is a frequent speaker at conferences, leadership retreats, and to university students.

Formative experiences have included being an athlete, living in a global city, and suffering through a season of anxiety and depression. Influential voices in Scott’s life include Tim Keller, CS Lewis, Leslie Newbigin, Soong Chan Rah, Jonathan Edwards, Johnny Cash, Joni Eareckson Tada, Miroslav Volf, Paul Tripp, Ann Voskamp, Martin Luther King, Jr., Marva Dawn, and NT Wright. In his free time you might find Scott relaxing with people or a book, strumming his Gibson J-45, hiking, eating Edley’s BBQ, enjoying live music, or cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and North Carolina Tar Heels.

Scott has authored two books: Jesus Outside the Lines and Befriend.

About the Book:  For many people, Christianity has become an institution of rules, duty, and potlucks. But for filmmaker Darren Wilson, his life of cultural Christianity changed radically when a powerful encounter with God led him to begin making films that attempted to display the God of the Bible in living color. What happened over the next ten years has affected millions around the world, and has set fires ablaze in hearts that have long sat dormant.

God Adventures is an honest and compelling book about the events surrounding the making of these powerful films (Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, Holy Ghost, and Holy Ghost Reborn), and is designed to take you into a deeper, more fulfilling and, yes, riskier relationship with God.

Like Darren’s films, this book focuses on:

  • God’s miraculous power and overpowering love.
  • A Father desperately pursuing His children.
  • The often misunderstood third Person of the Trinity and His relationship to the modern believer.
  • God’s dominance over other gods and supernatural powers.
  • How the Holy Spirit wants to use everyone to bring change and healing to the world, not just professional ministers.

Christianity was never meant to be a social club—it was meant to change the world. God Adventures provides biblical insight for the supernatural occurrences documented in Darren’s films, along with behind-the-scenes stories that will inspire, engage, and challenge you to not settle for less than experiencing all of God.

About the Author:  Darren Wilson is the Founder of Wanderlust Productions, a film/television production company that focuses on creating media that creatively and powerfully advances the kingdom of God around the world. Darren’s films have been seen by millions around the world. His first five films, Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, Holy Ghost, and Holy Ghost Reborn have helped change the spiritual temperature of the worldwide church. He is currently working on a new film and a variety of television shows. Darren has also written two books, Filming God, which details his journey out of skepticism into faith in the supernatural; and his latest, Finding God in the Bible, which is a book about friendship with God. He also has a regular blog for Charisma Magazine called Behind the Lens, where he writes about current events, spiritual questions, and the entertainment industry. Devon Franklin, VP of Production for Columbia Pictures, calls Darren “one of the most innovative filmmakers and authors of faith today.” Darren lives with his wife, Jenell, and their three children, Serenity, Stryder, and River in Greenville, SC.
