Excited to welcome Jared C. Wilson to the podcast to talk about his new book Supernatural Power for Everyday People: Experiencing God's Extraordinary Spirit in Your Ordinary Life (Thomas Nelson, 2018). We talk about the Holy Spirit, why the miracle you're looking for might actually be right in front of you, and why Jared self identifies as a noncharismatic continuationist.

About the Book:  Would it change your life to know that there is a way to live your everyday life supernaturally? Most of us would say “yes,” and Jared C. Wilson’s new book reveals how. For the homemaker wondering how to get through the stress of washing dishes and making meals nobody seems to appreciate; for the cubicle jockey punching her time-card every day wondering if what she does really matters; for the teacher or leader wondering if he is making an impact; for the student afraid of the future; for every believer struggling to get through daily life, Supernatural Power for Everyday People offers the hope of meaning and purpose, and also the promise of power. We can get beyond just “getting by." We can prevail and live a life of far more joy, contentment, and peace than we ever thought possible.

A practical book written in a devotional tone, Supernatural Power for Everyday People shows readers how to rely more fully on the power of the Holy Spirit for growth and satisfaction in their lives.

About the Author:  Jared C. Wilson is the director of content strategy at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, managing editor of For the Church, and director of the Pastoral Training Center at Liberty Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He speaks at churches and conferences around the world every year and also blogs regularly at the Gospel Coalition. His books include Your Jesus Is Too Safe, Gospel Wakefulness, The Story of Everything, Unparalleled, and The Imperfect Disciple.

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with Bethel Church leader Havilah Cunnington about her brand new book Stronger than the Struggle: Uncomplicating Your Spiritual Battle (Thomas Nelson, 2018).

About the Book:  We all face challenges. On any given day, the problems of real life can take our breaths away. Our marriages, finances, relationships, and health are regular struggles, and that's just the beginning. Doesn't the Bible say the war has already been won? So why do we still battle?

In a down-to-earth, let’s-get-real approach, popular Bible teacher Havilah Cunnington cuts through the confusion and shows us how to

  • Discern whether we’re dealing with battles within ourselves, resistance from God, or genuine fights with the Devil.
  • Throw off misconceptions about spiritual warfare, and understand what Jesus really said about our spiritual authority and the certainty we have in him.
  • Ask the right questions and build a realistic battle plan to win one day at a time.

With humor and honesty, Cunnington lays out practical tools to thrive in the face of hardship, enabling us to walk forward in the confidence that, because of Jesus, we really are stronger than the struggle.

About the Author:  Havilah Cunnington has been in full-time ministry for twenty years, and serves as the Executive Director of Moral Revolution and a pastor at Bethel Church. Havilah and her husband, Ben, lead a nonprofit and an online platform called Truth to Table, reaching the world with Bible studies, messages, and lifestyle leadership tools. Havilah and Ben live in Redding, California, with their four sons: Judah, Hudson, Grayson, and Beckham.

Excited to have Mark Wilson back on the podcast after a three year hiatus. This time around, we're talking about his new book The Spirit Said Go: Lessons in Guidance from Paul's Journeys (Wipf and Stock, 2017).

About the Book:  "God's got a plan for your life" is an aphorism frequently heard by Christians. But how do you discover that plan? The Spirit Said Go is designed to help believers find God's will. Using Paul's journeys in Acts as examples, Wilson discusses twenty lessons on guidance drawn from these journeys. Using his firsthand experience traveling along these routes in the Eastern Mediterranean, he reads between the lines offering additional insights into Luke's account. He also provides important geographical and archaeological information to illustrate Paul's world among the Jews, Greeks, and Romans. Wilson then illustrates each lesson with autobiographical vignettes drawn from his own spiritual pilgrimage of over forty years as a follower of Jesus. Friends and colleagues also share stories of similar experiences of guidance. Each chapter ends with reflection questions that help the reader integrate the lesson into Christian living. The volume offers an inductive Bible study combined with practical, spiritual insights regarding how God guides his people then and now.

About the Author:  Mark Wilson is the founder and director of the Asia Minor Research Center in Antalya, Turkey. He currently has academic appointments at Stellenbosch University, the University of South Africa, Ridley College, and Regent University. He is the author of Biblical Turkey (2010) and Victory through the Lamb (2014).

The amazingly prolific Tricia Goyer joins me today on the podcast to discuss her newest book Walk It Out: The Radical Result of Living God’s Word One Step at a Time (David C. Cook, 2017).

About the Book:  Women often pack their lives with family, friends, and faithful service, yet still end up feeling empty and unfulfilled. In Walk It Out, Tricia Goyer demonstrates to women that walking out the mandates of Scripture allows God to spark passion and mission within them.

Whether believers realize it or not, God intended for them to do what the Bible says: adopt the orphan, take the gospel into all the world, and care for the needy. These are mandates that point believers down the path of true living and eternal life.

Sometimes those steps are easy, but many times they require a move outside of what feels safe or secure. When women stop focusing on their own dreams and purposes, and instead focus on God’s dreams and purposes, everything changes.

About the Author:  Tricia Goyer is a God-centered, passionate and charismatic author with a detail-focused approach to her unique blend of writing. A prolific writer, she's published over 70 books, including Walk It Out: The Radical Result of Living God's Word One Step At a Time

This USA-Today Best-selling Author has also won a two Carol Awards and a Retailer's Best Award. She was also an ECPA Gold-Medallion Nominee and a Christy Award Nominee.

Tricia's debut novel, From Dust and Ashes, was about the liberation of the Mauthausen Concentration camp in Austria at the end of World War II. Tricia researched at in Austria and interviewed over 100 veterans to collect their remarkable experiences…passing them on to a new generation of readers. Tricia puts the same dedication and detail into every book she writes.

Tricia's writing style is vivid and heartwarming, allowing readers to take home more than engaging stories, but also incredibly inspiring messages of faith and hope. Her goal is to write stories that matter. Tricia Goyer is a homeschooling mom of ten, grandmother of four, and wife to John. With a busy life she understand the importance of making every word count.
